The best place to stay in Santorini is the west coast side that actually offers the best uninterrupted famous views of the volcano, the caldera and the sunset.
The best towns to stay on that side of the island are Fira (where all the buzz is), Imerovigli (more quiet and seclusive), Firostefani (walking distance to Fira but more quiet) and of course the famous Oia town.
Fira is the capital of Santorini, the hub of the island. It is a vibrant town with bustling activities. The central streets are filled with shops, restaurants, cafes and bars.
Fira is also the epicenter of the island’s nightlife. This is where you’ll find most of the best bars and nightclubs on the island.
Firostefani is the best budget choice for accommodation. This is where you’ll probably find the best deals on hotels.
It has easy access to the center of the town, lying only about a 10-minute walk from Fira, but far enough to allow for privacy and quiet.
Imerovigli is renowned for its peaceful surroundings for those who wish to have a relaxing holiday.
It is the quietest town, located at the top of a cliff. This is why this town has the island’s best sunset vantage point – in the center of the island overlooking the azure blue ocean, blue sky and the surrounding islands.
Located at the northern tip of the island, Oia is Santorini’s most romantic and charming town. You can find Santorini’s most famous postcard shot, the Blue-Dome Church, in Oia. It is also the best spot to see the sunset after Imerovigli but no nightlife or bars.
